Appealing directly to my tastes for western swing
and cajun cowboy country, Next Time sees Pickens
and Baz trading songs and vocals and playing just
about everything besides drums and fiddle....Baz and
Pickens have put together a little gem of a record.

about

Baz says: This is one of only a handful of songs I’ve ever written away from the support of a guitar or a piano. In 2003 Slim and Dr. Baz travelled to Norway to play at one of the most remote and exotic ‘boutique’ music festivals in the world – the Sjyrock Festival on the island of Vaeroy in the Lofoten archipeligo (sjyrock means ‘ocean spray’). After the Festival and our mini-tour of northern Norway, we travelled on to Kilkenny in Ireland, where a long term friend of mine, the controversial Australian novelist Leon ‘Moses’ Carmen and his wife Taliska have settled. Moses used to accompany me on the piano at pub gigs around Melbourne in the late 70s, and he played on the “lost” album of my first stage musical “Magical Frank”. With Faye (Mrs. Pickens) making up the touring party, we hired a minibus and drove randomly around the misty backroads of south and west of Ireland for a week, and this song began to take shape in my head in the back-seat of the hire car, as the idyllic green hills of Ireland rolled by. When we got back to Kilkenny I picked up Slim’s old Kalamazoo and was thrilled to find I could play “Get Happy” complete – like some dusty old song from a bygone era.
